THE
SUMMARY AND SUGGESTIONS

Long story short, the teacher in me was so happy and grateful to be a part of this program. I have felt so much joy with the opportunities and knowledge this program has given me. I have realized that I can teach well and that I can have a nice connection with my students and co-teachers. I used to not trust myself with the field I am pursuing but because of this program, I have managed to believe in myself again. If I am given the chance to teach in Lazuardi again, I will take it in all possible ways.
The practicum met and even went beyond my needs as an individual and as a person who aspires to become a teacher. At first, I thought I would only learn how to teach in a different that has different routines and culture but I learned more. I learned more than what I thought I needed to learn in this practicum. I am thankful that I was able to love myself more and trust that I deserve to become a teacher.
I genuinely appreciate the knowledge I have learned about their teaching styles, the learning styles of the students, and their curriculum. It softens my heart to see a school that prioritizes its students like their own family and with that, I can say that I am very lucky to have experienced teaching in Lazuardi.
The problems I have encountered are the language barrier and the tiredness due to the schedules we had even after classes since we only had 28 days to stay in Kendari. Sometimes we have a schedule with the other teachers in UHO, and we have to visit other places, which I am also thankful for but of course, was tiring especially when it was my teaching week. But the smiles and laughter of my students made those tiring days and nights worthwhile.
As for my suggestions, I think that it would be great if the students would have a better orientation from the SEAMEO itself as well as the schools participating in the program. It just seemed that the schools (Sending and Receiving) were not well transparent with each other’s plans, schedules, and requirements. It will be more helpful and considerate if the requirements of the students who will be part of the program are thoroughly discussed since it is not easy to be in this program despite the happy and sweet memories they will get.
Additionally, a proper cultural orientation even with the students whom the exchange student-teacher will handle should be oriented with the culture to avoid personal problems and to maintain respect for each other’s boundaries.
As for the evaluators, it will also be better if they have a proper orientation about the student-teacher situation they will be evaluating, especially in a Special Education classroom or even an inclusive classroom.
All in all, it is such a great experience that has helped me to become a better teacher for my future students. Lazuardi and UHO was such an accommodating school that also had a lot of kind and genuine teachers. With that, I will always be thankful, as a student and as a future teacher.
