Teacher Rei's Teaching Plan

Let us reminisce my teaching days in Lazuardi, the school that captured my heart

Lazuardi follows three different curriculums for different subjects and different grade levels. For my situation as an English teacher, I have used and followed the Cambridge Curriculum and made sure to follow the core competencies and the syllabus for the students. The curriculum and the syllabus they follow are quite similar to the curriculum we have in the Philippines, though what surprised me is how it was somewhat less complicated compared to the curriculum we have in the Philippines.

Learning and studying about the curriculums used in Lazuardi made me realize that we, teachers also study and learn new things in our everyday because the knowledge to be passed on to the students and how to teach our students are progressing and changing.

The format of their lesson plan and how it does not follow Bloom’s Taxonomy is what also surprised me since I was taught to always use Bloom’s Taxonomy in the Philippines. Despite these differences, I have seen that it is effective in how the students learn and enjoy their class. The curriculum and lesson plans in Lazuardi show how they gradually build up the academic competencies of their students. It is culture, religion, and good character before anything else.

My Lesson Plan & Evaluation Form

Through the lens of Special Education

As a teacher who focuses on Special Needs Education, I made sure to know the abilities and limitations of my students before making my lesson plans and activities. After getting to know my students well, I aligned my introductions or motivating activities to my students’ interests. Also, I make sure to be all around the classroom for my students. For example, even when it is only reading time, I observe my students and go beside those students who are struggling to read and make sure to give proper guidance to ensure that they are with us during our reading sessions.

Another situation is making sure to follow the scaffolding techniques to mg students especially when it is their workbook or activity time. I make sure to prioritize the needs of my students, especially the support they need to catch up and understand where the lesson is going. Lastly, when a student seems to be struggling, I go beside him and check how much support the student needs and give it to him as long as he needs to while also making sure that other students are not being left behind.

Last and most importantly, I asked for the Individual Education Plans (IEP) of the students before doing my lesson plans because the flow of my class, lesson, and activities should also be aligned with the IEP of the students with special needs in my class. Thankfully, Lazuardi gives the students with special needs their own therapists which helps provide and ensure the quality of education for all.

Others:
Being in a different country that has a different religion and culture, I had to make sure that I am respecting the country’s routine and beliefs. Therefore, before starting and ending the class, I make sure to let my students pray.
I also incorporate some of their beliefs, culture, and habits in the lesson I am discussing for the day.
